Overview
Reading Mask Bar is designed to improve focus and reading flow on the web. We believe that your reading habits are personal, and our technology reflects that commitment to privacy. This extension is built to run entirely in your browser without tracking your behavior.
Information Collection & Transmission
This extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information, browsing history (except as noted below), or identifiable user content to our servers.
- No Remote Code: All functionality is packaged locally. We do not load external scripts.
- No Analytics: We do not use tracking pixels, cookies, or third-party analytics platforms.
- No Sharing: We never sell or share data with advertisers or third parties.
External Services (Word Lookup)
If you explicitly use the Word Lookup feature, the selected word is sent to a third-party API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) to retrieve its definition. This request contains no identifiable information about you, your browser, or the page you are visiting beyond the word itself.
Local Storage
The extension stores minimal data locally on your device to enable its features. This data never leaves your browser:
- Settings: Preferences like bar color, height, opacity, and feature toggles are synced via your browser's account (e.g., Google/Edge Sync).
- Reading History: A rolling list of the last 20 pages where the mask was active. This is stored locally and can be cleared at any time.
- Word Cloud: Analyzes the headings of recently read pages to generate a local summary of your interests.
Permissions
The extension requests minimal permissions (activeTab, storage, scripting, and history) strictly to render the mask on the page you are viewing and save your preferences locally. These permissions do not grant us access to your private data.
